  • National: The NDIS is being introduced progressively across all states and territories.
  • Disability: The NDIS provides support to eligible people with intellectual, physical, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial disability. Early intervention supports can also be provided for eligible people with disability or children with developmental delay.
  • Insurance: The NDIS gives all Australians peace of mind. If they, their child or loved one is born with or acquires a permanent and significant disability, they can access the support they need.
  • Scheme: The NDIS is not a welfare system. The NDIS is designed to help people get the support they need so their skills and independence improve over time.

NDIA is the independent agency responsible for implementing the National disability Insurance scheme. It works to support the client and their family by identifying the appropriate assistance  required in their life to achieve their individual goals. To be eligible for NDIS, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Residency: Client must be an Australian Citizen holder, Permanent resident or hold a Protected Special Category Visa
  • Age: Should be under 65 years old
  • Location: Should come under the range of NDIS availability
  • Support: You must require support for personal care, daily activities, instrument requirements for daily activities to improve the individual’s goal and be ready to participate in the activities to reduce the support needs in future.

To receive the NDIS services, you should follow the following steps:

  • Check whether one can access the NDIS.
  • Have initial contact with the NDIS either by letter or by phone.
  • Talk to the provider to help prepare and pre-plan for the NDIS.
  • Meet with the NDIS to develop individual NDIS plan.
  • Receive the individual NDIS plan.
  • Choose the service provider and decide your own support coordination.
  • Put the individual plan into action.
  • Review your individual plan yearly.
